Honoring Heroes Through Design: A Memorial Day Reflection from Jenness Interiors
By Nicole Stewart, Owner & Principal Designer
Memorial Day holds a deeply personal meaning for us at Jenness Interiors. It's more than a national holiday—it’s a solemn reminder of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. As the wife of a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, I carry this day in my heart all year long.
My husband, a proud Marine, served with courage and honor in both Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Those years shaped who he is—and by extension, shaped me, too. I remember the deployments, the silence between phone calls, and the strength it took for him to walk toward danger while I waited and prayed at home. And every Memorial Day, our hearts turn to those he served with—some of whom never made it home.
We think of those who gave everything: the young Marines he trained beside, those he led, and those who came before and after him. Their sacrifice is immeasurable. Their legacy is sacred.
At Jenness Interiors, we believe home is where memories are honored. Design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about telling stories and creating spaces that reflect who we are and what we value. For military families, those values run deep: service, honor, resilience, and remembrance.
Designing with Meaning: Honoring Service in the Home
Whether you're a military family or simply a grateful American, there are many ways to design with intention and respect:
Create a Legacy Wall: Frame medals, dog tags, or deployment patches. A carefully curated gallery wall can pay tribute while adding depth and character to your space.
Use Meaningful Colors: Incorporate deep blues, rich reds, and soft neutrals to evoke a timeless, respectful Americana palette.
Display with Dignity: A shadow box with a folded flag, a vintage photo in uniform, or a framed letter from the field—these pieces deserve places of prominence in your home.
Blend Tradition with Taste: Combine antique military heirlooms with modern elements for a sophisticated, balanced design that honors the past without feeling like a museum.
This Memorial Day, we reflect not only as a company but as a family. We hold close the stories, sacrifices, and silent strength of every man and woman who has worn the uniform. And through our work at Jenness Interiors, we’re proud to help others honor those legacies in their homes.
To those who serve, who have served, and especially those who never came home—we are endlessly grateful. You are not forgotten.
With respect and remembrance,
