Celebrating Local Art at Gallery 1401
A Visit to Remember
On April 24th, we had the pleasure of stepping into a true Chattanooga gem—Gallery 1401, located at 1401 Williams Street. As part of the Jenness Interiors mission to celebrate and elevate local artistry, we make it a point to support local galleries and creatives whenever we can. This visit, however, was something truly special.
From the moment you walk into Gallery 1401, you’re greeted with a timeless charm. The exposed brick walls, creaky hardwood floors, and open-beam ceilings create a warm, inviting atmosphere that immediately connects you to the space—and to the art that fills it. There's something deeply grounding about walking through a gallery that has such character; it feels like history and creativity are stitched into every corner.
The highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet Carley McGee-Boehm, the gracious and passionate owner of Gallery 1401. Carley has cultivated more than just a gallery—she’s built a community space that honors artists and their stories. Her commitment to the arts is evident in every curated piece and every conversation she shares.
We were especially thrilled to meet the artist being honored that evening: Brett Weaver, a name that resonates deeply in Chattanooga’s art scene. Brett is the embodiment of a modern-day Renaissance man. Though he holds an engineering degree from Tennessee Tech, he chose to follow a different calling—one of color, emotion, and expression through paint.
Brett’s journey is as inspiring as his work. In 2002, at the age of 29, he left a career in engineering to pursue painting full-time, setting up a modest studio in the old Chattanooga Bank Building. This leap of faith—to “chase a dream,” as he describes it—has since flourished into an illustrious career marked by diversity, depth, and soul.
Weaver’s pieces are mesmerizing. His portfolio stretches from serene traditional landscapes to bold abstracts, emotive figuratives, and his celebrated cityscapes that seem to hum with urban rhythm. His brushwork carries an emotional resonance that reaches beyond the canvas, anchoring viewers to fleeting yet powerful moments. Each painting felt like a conversation—quiet, meaningful, and impossible to forget.
Beyond his incredible talent, Brett’s warmth and humility made the evening even more special. It’s clear his passion for painting is matched by his love for family. With his wife Tianna (his “ultimate cheerleader”) and their twins, Abbott and Emeline, by his side, Brett brings the same authenticity to his life as he does to his work. You might even spot the trio walking to and from school—a reminder that the artists who inspire us are also our neighbors, our friends, our community.
At Jenness Interiors, we believe that supporting local businesses and artists isn’t just good practice—it’s essential. When we invest in our creative community, we nurture the culture, identity, and spirit of our city. Spaces like Gallery 1401 give artists a platform and offer all of us a place to connect, reflect, and be inspired.
So, we encourage you: go visit Gallery 1401. Take an afternoon to soak in the art, say hello to Carley, and if Brett Weaver’s work is on display—spend time with it. You won’t leave the same.
Support local. Celebrate talent. Find beauty in the everyday. That’s what we believe in—and we’re proud to be part of a city that believes it too.
